Jillian Chapin is the powerhouse founder of Graphite+Company, a Central Virginia-based interior design firm with projects spanning the commercial and residential sectors. She can best be described as a space-maker who applies practiced design rigor to spaces creating environments with beautiful purpose. A true creative study, she holds a Marketing Management Major and Music Minor from Virginia Tech, an MFA in Interior Environments from Virginia Commonwealth University, and is currently teaching cross-disciplined design technologies alongside her mentors at the VCU IDES program. Jillian is known best for applying simple beauty to a directly functional space. Her aesthetic is that of a personal functionality; putting people into spaces of intent. She has a talent for color, scale, detail, and surprise. Her clientele ranges from singles to young families to empty nesters and businesses of all sizes. She has no typical project: experiences vary from single room updates to entire home renovations, through several types of new commercial construction to curating museum exhibit experiences. Jillian has also cultivated a team of skilled contractors and craftspeople, allowing her to offer a full range of vertically integrated design services. Perhaps best known as an industry collaborator, Jillian has been a key contributor to leading firms including Madge Bemiss Architecture, Sadler & Whitehead Architects, LoCH Design, and Bella Designs Studio.
Ben Chapin is the strategic mind behind the business consulting at Graphite+Company, a Virginia-based management consulting firm specializing in maker, builder, and service firms. Ben can best be described as an analyst-gone-wild, applying an academic rigor to get’r done tasks. His experience spans non-profit organizations, heavy highway construction, and construction services for the water and wastewater industries. Ben received his BA in Management, Entrepreneurship, and Technology from Virginia Tech with Minor in Global Business. He is currently working towards a CPA and Master of Accountancy at Virginia Commonwealth University. Ben has developed a knack for transitioning traditional brick and mortar teams towards virtual operation. He is happiest at implementation, training, working through the learning curve and is comfortable working functionally in the areas of project management, marketing, accounting, finance, and high-level organizational strategy. Throughout his career, Ben has fostered a deep bench of industry professionals, collaborating with business partners, executives, and community leaders. He is an active member of a number of local non-profit organizations and industry associations.
